CDC Stops Covid-19 Advisories for International Flights

 


The Center for Disease Control, which is the nodal agency for any type of disease in USA and is also considered an authority on global stage, has been instrumental for issuing guidelines and advisories all through the Covid-19 pandemic period. It has taken a leader position in informing the public about the various dos and don’ts during this period. The advisories pertained not only to the domestic audience but also for the international travellers. For the aviation industry as such, these advisories have been particularly useful and they could develop a suitable mechanism for ensuring that these are complied with.

With the pandemic now no longer a grave threat as it was in the yesteryears, the CDC has stopped providing the advisories for international travellers. It means that the cheap international air tickets will come with lesser burden of elaborate procedures to follow. Although it makes sense to stop issuing advisories, it has kept one route open. This is when a new variant of Covid-19 evolves and is considered to be a grave global threat. This situation would warrant issuing suitable warning and the accompanying instructions on how to manage it.

The CDC has taken this well-considered decision since the countries around the globe have stopped testing of the people for the virus. Many countries have also stopped reporting the number of Covid-19 cases as well. With the lack of information from the source, it would not be possible for CDC to continue with issuance of advisories.

This comes as a welcome relief from elaborate procedures and practices which the international passengers had to undergo in order to comply with the guidelines. This is also expected to further ease the international travel, with people coming into USA facing lesser hassles. The airline companies will also heave a sigh of relief as they could now manage their operations in much better manner. This measure shows the confidence of the administration with respect to Covid-19. Added benefit is that the passengers get a psychological boost and there can be more passengers flying to USA as the little hesitation they might have had in past will now be gone.

This step is in a series of measures aimed at loosening the restrictions imposed due to concern for Covid-19. In August, it has suggested that people do not need to quarantine if they have been exposed to the virus. Rather, they shall wear a face mask for 10 days. Another important directive issued in the recent past pertains to the children not being required to have a negative test report.

These moves have not been without their share of criticism. People have criticized this loosening of restrictions to call that CDC has blood on its hand. Such harsh criticism shows the extent of paranoia in the society that exists in the US society.
