Fare-the Only Criteria for Choosing Cheap Airlines Flights?
If you had thought that $39 flight is unimaginable, then
Frontier has done this unimaginable thing by offering this highly discounted
fare for some routes. Quite naturally, passengers would be booking tickets on
it ahead of others. Just is Frontier has been in limelight for offering cheap
air fares, the same is being done by Ryan Air in Europe. People, whenever they
look for low cost fares, invariably turn to the cheap airlines, which are also
the budget airlines.
How are the low cost airlines able to offer these low fares?
It is done by adopting a two pronged approach. One part of this approach is to
make all other things chargeable, such as baggage (even cabin), check-in,
meals, entertainment, etc. So, the price of the ticket is only the price it
will take to occupy the seat. In general, passengers end-up bringing some
articles or buying services which do have a cost. This way the passengers end
up paying more than just the ticket price.
The other part is to ramp up the efficiencies of the
business model. These efficiencies are operational and financial in nature. Let
us first look at the financial modeling of this business. The aircraft which
are leased have a well negotiated price with the manufacturer since the orders
of hundreds of planes of same model are placed in one single order. This means
that the manufacturing company can offer the best possible discounts. At the same
time, the financing companies are able to offer the best interest rates which
also reduce the cost of financing.
Cheap airlines, or budget airlines, as these are popularly
called, also have a well-defined operational efficiency model. Right from the
selection of the most fuel efficient planes, to having only economy class, not
offering freebies, using short-haul flights and ensuring least turn-around
times, ensure that the efficiency factor is taken care of right from the
beginning of business.
Though low cost budget carriers provide cheaper fares than
regular airline companies, passengers shall take into consideration a number of
limitations which they will have to fly with when traveling in their planes. Passengers might also have to do some
additional arrangements, such as carrying home cooked food, etc. since the
airline either does not offer these on-board or it is exorbitantly priced.
Similarly, the baggage and check-in options have to be worked up in order not
to spend money on these.
If, however, you think that you will have to buy some
articles or services, do add up its cost and compare it with the other
full-service carriers to know which will be a cheaper option to go with.
