Why Looking for Cheap Flights Online is Like Day Dreaming for Peanuts?

Every time you have to catch a flight, it is taken for granted that you will make searches online to find the best fares. Even when you have preference for any particular airline or online travel agency, the search for the best fare drives you to spend some time on other web resources as well. These ‘other’ web resources could be the websites or mobile apps which are centred around providing deals or best bargains, social media platforms or even you very own email inbox where subscribed newsletter could be carrying deals for your travel.

Even as you make these searches, one realization will definitely dawn on you that the deals are not good enough. Online search for cheap flights might not be a worthwhile exercise. You may land on discounts of a few dollars, may be $10 or $20, but anything above that is like looking for too much and might be just a waste of time. So, does that mean that the airlines or the agencies cannot offer more than these discounts? The answer is no!

If you have to look for decent fare offers, then it can be achieved in two ways. One, look for these offers offline, by calling the flight agencies. The agencies have deep rooted relationship with the airline companies. Due to quantum of booking airlines receive from the agencies, the former oblige the latter with deep discounts which can run into hundreds of dollars for some routes. The agency might not pass all of that to the customers but can surely do so with some of them. So, if you have to land good discounts, it is imperative to book consistently with select agencies as these might then offer you the best fares.

The second way to get best deals is to call the agents. It is a fact that the best deals are given out on the phone call, even though these might be rare to come by. So, when you look for deals, then besides searching online, do not forget to call the agents. Airlines work with a dynamic pricing model in order to gain maximum profits. So, it might offer discounts when it feels that there is a need to get more passengers for certain flights during certain time. Advantage can be taken of this need.

Related to this is the advice commonly given to the passengers to travel during the off-season. It is at this time when the airlines are looking for more passengers and may be willing to offer fares at lower than normal prices.
